2018 Catch the Moment – Week 5

It’s been a very hard week in our neck of the woods. The week started out fine, like any other, and then life hit us with a wholly unexpected curveball. And now we grieve the loss of our sweet kitty, Tails. I’m still just shocked, and of course, terribly sad, too. In a time when the world feels like it’s been knocked off its axis, I’m grateful for friends who’ve reached out, for hugs, for family, and for photography. Taking photos, learning about editing, leaning into my camera… those have been a support too, something to fill the space where words cannot be found.

Here are this week’s photos…

029 | Mon, Jan 29 ~ After such a somber intro, I feel a little silly posting Monday’s photo, but here it is: Gru! Homer and I built an early birthday present of his from his Auntie Maria and Abuela. It’s like Lego, but it’s MegaConstrux, and this one is Minion themed. It was a lot of fun to put together with Homer.

2018 Catch the Moment – Week 3

Hi! So this week, I completely forgot to do the prompt from Catch the Moment, which was: Cold. Oh well! But I did remember to use one of the themes from the weekly prompts over at the Recapture Self Village. The January prompts are Just for Me, At My Feet, My Day, and On My Lap. This week, I did: At My Feet, on Jan 18th.

015 | Mon, Jan 15 ~ I cleaned my desk! It’s coming together, slowly but surely. It really is an ongoing struggle. I’ve been reading Unf*ck Your Habitat and I feel like it’s actually helping. This was two 20/10s (20 mins cleaning / 10 min break). Just gotta keep working at it!

Catch the Moment 366 – Week 39

267 | Sept 23, Fri – It’s the most wonderful time of the year… OKTOBERFEST!!! Joe and I got to go out on a date night, which we pretty much only do about once a year for Oktoberfest. It was rough trying to get out the door, many obstacles stood in our way, and then somehow, the stars aligned and it all worked out. Our amazing friend, Sarah, babysat for us, and then we were off, drinking beer, enjoying some brats and sauerkraut, and dancing the Chicken Dance. It was seriously a super fun night, and then when we got home, Homer was snug in bed, soundly asleep. So glad it all worked out so perfectly!

Catch the Moment 366 – Week 26

176 | June 24, Fri – Homer fell asleep with his head on my shoulder as I read him his bedtime stories. He felt so soft and snuggly. When I shifted a bit, his soft hand slid down my arm and flopped gently onto the bed. I took his hand in mine, and he just stayed asleep as I admired the beauty of it, our hands together, holding onto not only his hand but that moment, his sweetness, wishing I could freeze time. Is there anything sweeter than cuddling with my darling sleeping boy who is growing all the time, yet still so small? I treasure him immeasurably..

Catch the Moment – Week 21

141 | May 20, Fri – Let me tell you about Homer meeting Dolly the Pony at Fox Hollow Farm. He was SO scared! He insisted on getting off immediately the first time he got on. I think his butt was in the saddle maybe a full second before he was back up and “Nope, nope, nope”-ing his way out of there. Then my sweet friend, Shoshana, told him more about it, how it’s wobbly but fun, and the pony didn’t go very far (her daughter had ridden shortly before Homer tried). Then she said, “But if you don’t want to, that’s ok, too!”

And she inspired me! She made me realize that there was one more thing I knew I could offer, and if he turned it down, I’d know he wasn’t ready yet. “How about you try it just for a few steps, until Dolly walks next to that tree? And if you still don’t like it, just tell me, and you can get off,” I said, and pointed to the tree about five feet from the the starting point. “Ok!” he agreed.

So we got back in line, and when it was time, he sat in the saddle, and we started walking. He nervously giggled and marveled at it the entire time. “It feels like she’s about to start running!! But she’s not running! She’s walking! Good pony! Good girl, Dolly!” It was so incredibly cute! I’m ridiculously proud of him that he was willing to do it even though he was scared. He did so awesome! Look at this smile!
