5 Simple Tips for Improving Your Smartphone Photos

Recently I was inspired to think about my best tips for smartphone photography. I thought about some ideas about how to snap great photos, even when the only camera on you is the one in your phone. After all, I really love my new DSLR, but I don’t always have it with me. Most of us usually have our smartphones close by, though, in our pockets or purses. (Except for my mom – she’s still rockin’ her flip phone! And writing checks at the grocery store, too. She actually told a cashier the other day, “I know, I’m a dinosaur!” Ha! Love you, Mom!!).

So while I’m not a huge expert on photography or anything, I have read a lot and taken classes and practiced with photographer friends, too, so here are a few things I’ve learned along the way that might help my fellow beginner photographers out there, too!

My Very First DSLR Camera!

Can I just say how excited I am? I am really excited! I just got my first DSLR!! My wonderful husband got it for me, after I’d been jonesing for one for a while now. Especially since I took my first photography class this spring. It was called Momtography, put on by Beryl Ayn Young. I’m glad that I still have access to all the videos, because I’m still re-watching them, and learning more. Anyway, I was able to practice the steps in that class with the help of my wonderful sis in law, Cinnamon, who loaned me her camera, a Canon Rebel T5i! I loved it! And when I went researching to see what I might want to get for myself, I saw there were a few newer models in that same line. So, Joe got me the Canon EOS Rebel T6i, and it’s pretty rad. I look forward to taking and sharing a lot of pictures from it!

Even Homer is excited about learning more about photography, because the other day, he said excitedly, “Mama, let’s go out and take pictures of nature together!” So I got my new camera, and he took his iPad, and here are some of the images we took on our outing together!

Hello, and Happy Spring 2017!

Hello, Happy Spring, and how are you?? Where did we last leave off? Oh yes I believe I was writing about how I was all caught up on my photo posts! Apparently I was so excited, I got carried away celebrating with a raucous party, there were chandeliers and those champagne glass towers and ice sculptures and acrobats, and next thing I knew, five months had passed!

Ok, not really, in reality, time just passes by like some sneaky ninja and I don’t even realize how much of it has passed until it has already gone past! And I don’t mean like the sneaky kind of ninja that my pets think they are when they hide only one part of their body and think I can’t see them. Like an actual stealth creature that I have no idea is whooshing past me.

I guess it’s not fair to say that I had NO idea. I mean, I realize time passes.

…Ok, so! Moving on, in the direction of something resembling a point, I’ll say this ~

Why I Started Blogging

Hannah over at Cats and Coffee made a list of blogging ideas! I’ve been enjoying her blog, and thought I’d use one of her listed topics for today’s post. (Thanks Hannah!)

Note:
There are currently NO affiliate links in this post, I haven’t set any of that up yet. I just linked a bunch of stuff for the sole purpose of sharing it with anyone who comes across it!

Why did I start blogging?

In March of 2001, my then-boyfriend-now-husband, Joe, said to me, “Hey, have you ever heard of this site called LiveJournal? I think it’s something you might really like.”

And it was all over from there!

It wasn’t surprising I fell in love with it, as I’d always loved the ideas of stories, journals, diaries, this completely private divulging of one’s deepest thoughts. As a child, I was privy to just a few diaries. Two nonfiction – the diary of Anne Frank, and the diary of Zlata Filipovic, the diary of a teenage girl living through the war in Sarajevo. Also as a teen (as in just barely 13 I believe), I read a fictional diary, The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. That is not a kid’s book! But I just snuck it off the large bookshelf in my brother’s room and was quite fascinated!

snoopydiaryAnd of course, part of my fascination with other peoples’ diaries was the fact that I’d been keeping my own for so long. I believe my first one was my Snoopy diary in second grade (excerpt here), and then I moved onto my pink, green, and blue-paged Lisa Simpson diary next, and it simply continued from there!

A Day in the Life ~ 03.03.2015

This is a Day in the Life photo project showing photos from our whole day. I also did one last year (omg almost exactly a year ago!), as well as one from 2011, when Homer was a baby. I always have a hard time not putting hundreds of pictures in one of these things. I kept it to a mere 43 this time around!

I think this counts as a pretty typical day for us. Homer and I tend to have two types of days during the week. One is the staying-home, and/or cleaning and/or errands type of day. The other is the going out to fun parks, play dates, or some kind of other fun outing. This is probably more in the former category.

One last note; it only occurred to me after all was said and done that I didn’t snap any pics of Joe. He’s a big part of our day, but he is often pantsless while indoors, so doesn’t care to be photographed, and it’s hard to blame him, really! So next time around, my goals are: more Joe pics, and to use my Canon instead of my phone camera.

Enjoy, and thanks for sharing our day with us!

Good morning! This is how we wake up (around 8:30am most days). 🙂 I tried to open my eyes for the pic, but couldn’t because the flash was too bright upon waking up!! The liiiiight, it buuuuurns….
