Catch the Moment 2018 ~ Week 35

Luckily, we had our family for a few more days, and got to spend most of the week with them. Here are a bunch of photos from our outings and fun together!

Mon, Aug 27 ~ Monday, we decided to go bowling! It was a lot of fun. Homer had a great time and even got a strike!

Allister really loved it, too. He seemed so excited to carry the bowling balls, and after he threw one, he’d go back to the ball return and excitedly announce which one he would choose next. “Now, the red one!”

We played a full game, ate some pizza, and played in the arcade, too. It was a great day!

Catch the Moment 2018 ~ Week 34

This week started out with smoke filling the air, from the rampant wildfires to the East and North of us. These fires seem more and more common each year, and honestly, it just weighs on me so much thinking about the potential implications of what this could mean for our future. The air quality index was anywhere from 190 – 220, rated worse than the air in some of the world’s most polluted cities, like Beijing. Headlines read Breathing Seattleā€™s air right now is like smoking 7 cigarettes.

Photos showing the thickness of the smoke were unreal. I just don’t ever want this to be our new normal. It’s so sad and scary.

Luckily, we got some rain, things calmed down some, and the air quality improved. Best of all, we got some awesome visitors, and had some awesome celebrations! So the week improved greatly during the last half! Here are the photos ~

Mon, Aug 20 ~ the skies turned yellow from the smoke and the sun and its reflection look really red. It was eerie.

Luckily, these two cute fellas were there to entertain me and take my mind off the smoke-pocalypse.

Catch the Moment 2018 – Week 29

Catch the Moment – ROAD TRIP EDITION!!! Epic Road Trip 2018 continues… Have you all ever gone on a long road trip? When I was a kid, probably about 11 years old (I think?), my whole family piled into our minivan and drove from San Antonio, Texas, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! Then we spent a couple weeks there with my grandmother, and then drove back. I remember the drive out way better than the drive back. When we stopped in Texarkana, we stopped in a store and I saw Jelly Belly jelly beans for the very first time and fell in love with them! I also remember thinking Memphis was pretty. I have a lot of fond memories from the trip, and my hope for Homer was that he’d have a lot of great memories from this trip for himself, too. I’m excited I got to see a lot of states I’d never been to before, and excited it all went as well as it did!

Mon, July 16 ~ On Monday, we drove from Spokane, straight through Idaho, into Montana, and stopped in Billings. Idaho and Montana had so many beautiful trees! And I saw 4 bald eagles in Montana while driving!! This was the sunset view from the hotel once we stopped for the night.

Catch the Moment 2018 – Week 24

This was the week of double photos! I got a bit off track when choosing photos, and long story short, I ended up with more photos than usual. Bonus photos, if you will! Anyway, it was a good week, for the most part. Summer has arrived! It’s getting warmer and sunnier, and there are a mere four days of school left for Homer. Exciting! And now for the photos ~

Mon, June 11 ~ This little guy has been enjoying car rides way more than he used to! It’s so cute how amped up he gets, often giving many glances over to the car as I take him on walks each day. Ashton walks along, then looks at the car, then at me, as if to say, “Are we going??” He was happy the answer was yes on Monday when I brought him with us to go pick up Joe from work. They looked so cute together when Ashton just jumped into Homer’s lap!

Catch the Moment 2018 – Week 23

Intros to these weekly photo posts are the hardest things to write. So, how about we just dive in? On to the photos!! ~~

Mon, June 04 ~ I had asked Homer to participate in a kids’ writing contest, the kid version of the one I love participating in called LJ Idol. He was not interested at first. After asking daily for a few days and always getting similar reluctance, I finally said, “I mean, you never know, maybe if you finish all the weeks, you might even get a prize. And it’s only 4 weeks! So 4 stories. I think you’ll enjoy it.”

He said, “Really? A prize? Like a banana split all to myself???”

“Uhm… Yeah, sure!” I said.

He did say it was more fun than he thought it would be, so maybe he took away at least a fraction of the love for writing that he has always had for banana splits!
Good job writing all 4 stories, Homer!
